The Swedish Police assessment from December 2025 designates 65 areas nationwide. Here is the list municipality by municipality, with official statistics on income, unemployment and age structure for each area.
According to the police, a vulnerable area is a geographically defined area of low socioeconomic status where criminals influence the local community. That influence is described as tied to the social situation rather than to an explicit intent to seize control of the area.
A particularly vulnerable area is characterised by a general reluctance to take part in legal proceedings, by parallel social structures, and by difficulty for the police to carry out their duties. The situation is described as acute.
The risk area category has been discontinued as of the 2025 assessment. Those areas were reclassified as vulnerable areas.
The police draw their own operational boundaries, which do not coincide with the statistical areas (DeSO and RegSO) that our data is based on. The areas are, however, roughly comparable in population. The statistics below refer to the statistical areas closest to the police delineation and should be read as an indication, not as figures for exactly the area the police designated.
The list is revised every two years. This is what changed since the previous assessment.
The police do not rank areas by danger and publish no list of "most dangerous areas". What exists is the assessment of vulnerable areas, which you find on this page. The classification concerns criminal influence on the local community — parallel structures and reluctance to take part in legal proceedings — not how great the risk is to an individual visitor or resident.
Less well than you might think. Reported crimes are counted where they are reported but divided by the number of residents, which puts city centres, retail districts and industrial estates at the top and residential areas near the bottom. In Stockholm such a list returns Norrmalm, the Old Town and Djurgården as the most crime-exposed places. We therefore publish no such ranking.

The police produce a new assessment roughly every two years. The latest was published in December 2025 and covers 65 areas. It removed Andersberg in Halmstad and discontinued the risk area category entirely.
